Your Therapist, Peyton Richard, LMFT
Sometimes you wonder if your life looked different… would you be happier?
You feel exhausted by communicating with your partner the same way over and over again, and things are just getting worse. You wish you had some tools because you know there has to be a better way.
You’ve started to realize that you’re part of the problem. Blaming your partner for everything is getting you nowhere. And most importantly? They’re not changing, even with all your feedback.
Now, you’re at the point where you know:
If something is going to change, it has to start with you.
You’re ready to reach out for support, whether that means working individually or together as a couple. Maybe you’re still committed to your relationship but feel completely disconnected. Or maybe you’re not even sure if your marriage can be saved. Either way, you know something has to shift.
You’ve tried to fix things on your own. You lose momentum. You feel alone.
You need support, accountability, and validation.

Hi, I’m Peyton!
Peyton Richard, LMFT
I’m a Marriage and Family Therapist who loves working with individuals, couples, and families to help them learn better and healthier ways to relate, communicate, and reconnect. I help people dealing with anxiety, childhood trauma, and relationship distress rediscover hope, resilience, and self-awareness.
I love helping my clients figure out what they really want, and then find the courage to communicate those needs clearly and authentically in their relationships.
I have a real passion for couples’ work!
I believe people can have the kind of marriage that is 100/100. I believe in happy spouse = happy house, not just happy wife = happy life. I believe that if I give generously to my partner, they’ll have the freedom and energy to give generously to me.
I believe a healthy, connected relationship can positively impact everything, from your kids and extended family to your emotional and physical health.
As a woman who’s been married for two decades and a Gottman-trained therapist, I know firsthand the benefits of having a partner, not just a spouse. But I also know: a strong marriage isn’t an accident. Like anything valuable, it takes intention, effort, and vulnerability.
And here’s something else I know: not every couple that comes to therapy knows if they want to stay together.
Sometimes you’re stuck in such a painful cycle, so filled with anger or avoidance, that you’re wondering if it’s even worth trying anymore. That’s why I offer Discernment Counseling, a short-term, structured approach for couples who are on the brink of separation and need help figuring out what’s next.
As a Certified Discernment Counselor, I help couples in crisis find clarity about their relationship, whether that means committing to repair, separating respectfully, or understanding each other more deeply before making a final decision.
It’s not couples counseling. It’s decision counseling. And it can change everything.
What’s it like to work with me?
As your therapist, I believe I have to earn the right to advise.
That means, especially in the beginning, I listen more than I speak. I want to truly know you, your story, your patterns, your pain, so I can offer the right tools at the right time.
You guide the process. We start by addressing what’s weighing on you now, so you have the peace and space to do the deeper work of healing, relating, and growing.
I use research-based approaches like Gottman Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and Imago Therapy to help you develop insight, change patterns, and build the life you want.
Change may start slowly, but the impact is powerful and lasting. I’ve worked with clients who felt completely stuck and hopeless, and I’ve watched them begin to trust their voice, rediscover their strength, and reconnect with their partner or themselves in new ways.
Healing doesn’t stop with you. It ripples outward to your relationships, your children, your extended family, and your future.
When you’re in session with me…
There’s an energy of understanding, calm, and strength.
You may laugh. You may cry. But most importantly, you’ll feel seen and heard.
There’s no judgment here. Just someone who’s deeply invested in your growth. My creativity and flexibility help me meet clients exactly where they are, using whatever tools and insights we need to get unstuck and move forward.
Want to know more about my training?
I received my degree in Hospitality from Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC (2000–2004) and worked for years as a wedding and events coordinator. After time in the corporate world, I felt a deep pull toward a more meaningful connection and returned to school for my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at Liberty University.
During my internship at Emerge Family Therapy in South Carolina, I worked with couples and families to help them grow and reconnect in deep, meaningful ways, and I loved it.
In 2021, my husband and I moved from South Carolina to Alabama (with our beloved dog in tow) to build a new chapter here.
Since then, I’ve continued to develop my clinical skills and am now:
A Gottman-trained couples therapist
A Certified Discernment Counselor
I’m passionate about helping people feel more connected in their relationships, more confident in their communication, and more at peace in their own skin.
